Melonite®, QPQ™, and the Arcor® Series are the world’s premier
liquid nitriding processes. They are supplied in North America,
exclusively by H.E.F. USA. These high-performance processes comply
with AMS 2753B and are widely specified for critical components.
For many applications, they are a superior alternative to chrome plating.
Melonite, and its earlier trade-name, Tufftride, is sometimes defined
by its SAE designation, AMS 2753 (latest revision, C; August 2008).
Melonite is a straightforward, flexible process to operate and maintain,
and delivers exceptionally uniform case hardening. The Melonite
process begins with placement of parts in a recirculating air preheat
furnace. The salt solution is contained in an aerated furnace.
After processing, parts are removed and quenched in an oxidizing
bath, cooled and rinsed.

The Melonite process maintains the dimensional integrity of processed
components – one reason why it has long been the leading choice for the
processing of drive train components, jet engine parts and defense weaponry.
Melonite is also widely used in the communications, petrochemical,
tire manufacturing and sporting goods industries.
Melonite QPQ starts with the Melonite liquid nitriding process,
follows with an AB-1 oxidizing salt bath post-treat, and finishes with
mechanical polishing and reimmersion in AB-1. This quench-polish-quench
(“QPQ”) sequence after Melonite processing provides substantial surface
enhancement. Wear and corrosion properties are superior to hard chrome
or nickel plating for many applications. Melonite with QPQ is one of the
best alternatives available as a replacement for chrome plating.

Melonite and QPQ have a 30 year track record of success
for a broad range of components
