Tribology Testing Resources

HEF's Surface Mechanics and Tribology Team have extensive resources for the comprehensive study of wear and friction control.

  • Extensive database of friction tests conducted over the past several decades
  • More than 40 types of test beds for accelerated wear simulation and characterization of wear behavior
  • Special environment testing: cryogenic, temperatures up to 1200°C and oil, grease, fuel and water lubrication
  • 3D surface topography
  • Optical microscopy
  • Scanning Electron Microscopy with EDS analysis
  • 2D and 3D profilometry
  • AFM (Atomic Force Microscope for providing a topography image with nanometer resolution, in 3D)
  • Nano hardness tester
  • Specialized software (hertz pressure, oil film thickness, etc.)
  • Conductivity
  • Wetting, measurement of surface energy, cleanliness measurement using Coronasurf™ technology
  • Corrosion resistance
